Canoe our Hiwassee or Appalachia Lake by putting in at the Hanging Dog recreation area boat ramp or below the Hiwassee Dam or Appalachia Dam.

There is also Canoe access at the Forrest Hargett (Pacesetters) on the Valley River with take out at Koneheta Park.  Put in below Mission Dam on Hiwassee River with take out either under the Wells Bridge or in downtown Murphy.

The Murphy River Walk & Canoe Trails follow along the banks of the Valley and Hiwassee Rivers.  In the summer months when Lake Hiwassee is full, it backs up into these rivers and surrounding low lands.  These shallow waters provide unique opportunities for the paddlers to meander along the rivers, inlets, and among the trees to observe birds, wildlife and fish species not otherwise seen from the walking trail.  Click here for map of the River Walk & Canoe Trails.
